Iconics Client reports a message 'IDataObject not supported by this server. No data notifications will take place.' when trying to connect (browse) the Fidelix OPC Server developed using OPCLabs Toolkit.

Do you recognize this message, it appears only when a customer try to connect to the server, but all devices finally work except for one (three out of four is ok)?

The server works ok with any other client.

IDataObject is only used with very first version of OPC Data Access specifications (OPC-DA 1.0x), and OPC Runtime Kit does not currently support OPC-DA 1.0x, it only supports OPC-DA 2.0x and OPC-DA 3.0x. So, in this sense, the error message is right. No reasonable OPC client should nowadays be requiring IDataObject, though.

Can you provide more details as to

  • what ICONICS software are we talking about (e.g. GraphWorX32, OPC DataSpy, or something else), and which version.
  • which operating system is this happening on.

With this information in hand, I may try to reproduce the problem here.

I should also say that it is quite weird that some "devices" work and some do not, one would expect that in such situation, it will be all-or-nothing. But this may need some more troubleshooting, too.

(I have attached the actual picture of the error message received from you here:

)

Hi everyone,

...

First problem 'IDataObject not supported by this server. No data notifications will

take place’ is related to the old old Iconics client.

.....

So I don’t think this a problem anymore, how about you Tomas?

Friendly regards

A.
